At Mainland Safety Training, our advanced first aid course goes far beyond textbook learning. Based in Surrey, BC, we have trained over 20,000 students since 2016 who now serve in construction, forestry, mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, and dozens of other high-risk industries across British Columbia. Our OFA Level 3 program is designed to give you the clinical decision-making skills and physical competencies that WorkSafeBC requires—and that real emergencies demand.
Every class is led by seasoned paramedics and emergency medical professionals who bring years of field experience into the classroom. Because we cap enrollment at 12 students, you receive direct coaching during every practical skill station, from airway management and spinal immobilization to hemorrhage control and patient assessment. This individualized approach is a major reason our advanced first aid course consistently achieves a pass rate above 95 percent.
Completing an advanced first aid course with Mainland Safety Training means more than earning a certificate. It means you are genuinely prepared to stabilize patients, coordinate with emergency services, and make life-saving decisions under pressure. Whether you are entering the workforce for the first time or renewing an existing certification, our program equips you with skills that employers across the Lower Mainland actively seek out.
Our advanced first aid course is built around six core advantages that set our graduates apart.
Our advanced first aid course is fully approved by WorkSafeBC, ensuring your OFA Level 3 certification is recognized by every employer in British Columbia.
Learn from active paramedics and emergency medical professionals who translate real-world experience into practical, memorable lessons.
Over 60 percent of class time is devoted to hands-on practice, simulation scenarios, and skill stations so you build genuine muscle memory.
With a maximum of 12 students per session, every participant receives direct feedback and one-on-one coaching throughout the course.
Graduate with your OFA Level 3 ticket and step directly into high-demand first aid attendant roles across BC's resource, construction, and industrial sectors.
We offer multiple start dates each month along with weekday and select weekend options, making it easy to fit the advanced first aid course into your schedule.
Our 10-day OFA Level 3 curriculum covers every competency required by WorkSafeBC, preparing you for the full scope of workplace emergency response.
Adult, child, and infant CPR with single and two-rescuer techniques, plus AED operation and troubleshooting.
Systematic approach to scene assessment, mechanism of injury analysis, and rapid primary survey for life-threatening conditions.
Manual in-line stabilization, cervical collar application, log rolls, and full spinal immobilization on long boards.
Assessment, splinting, traction, and management of open and closed fractures, dislocations, and soft-tissue injuries.

Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways, suctioning, bag-valve-mask ventilation, and supplemental oxygen delivery.
Recognition and management of chest pain, stroke, diabetic emergencies, seizures, allergic reactions, and anaphylaxis.
Hypothermia, heat stroke, frostbite, submersion incidents, and altitude-related conditions commonly encountered in BC workplaces.
Thermal, chemical, and electrical burn assessment, cooling protocols, and initial management of toxic inhalation and chemical exposure.
Stretcher operation, stair-chair carries, helicopter landing zone preparation, and handoff communication with EMS personnel.
Head-to-toe secondary assessment, vital sign monitoring, and accurate written documentation for incident reporting.
Multi-patient simulation exercises that test your ability to prioritize, treat, and manage realistic workplace emergencies under time pressure.
WorkSafeBC regulations require employers in high-risk industries to have OFA Level 3 certified attendants on site. If you work in—or are seeking employment in—any of the following sectors, an advanced first aid course is essential for compliance and career growth.
Even if your workplace is not classified as high-risk, holding an advanced first aid certification demonstrates a commitment to safety that many employers value highly during the hiring process.
The advanced first aid course, formally known as OFA Level 3, is WorkSafeBC's highest level of occupational first aid certification. Unlike basic first aid (OFA Level 1), which covers fundamental skills in a single day, the advanced first aid course spans 10 full days and teaches complex clinical competencies such as spinal immobilization, advanced airway management, oxygen therapy, and multi-patient triage. Graduates are qualified to serve as the primary first aid attendant at high-risk worksites across British Columbia.
Course fees vary depending on scheduling and any available promotions. Please contact Mainland Safety Training directly or visit our booking page at advancedfirstaidbc.ca for current pricing. Many employers cover the cost of the advanced first aid course for their workers, and financing options may also be available. The investment typically pays for itself quickly given the high demand and competitive wages for OFA Level 3 attendants in BC.
Our advanced first aid course runs for 10 consecutive business days, typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. The total instructional time exceeds 80 hours, ensuring you receive thorough preparation for both the written and practical components of the WorkSafeBC examination. We recommend clearing your schedule for the full duration so you can focus entirely on learning and skills development.
Your OFA Level 3 certification is valid for three years from the date of issue. To renew, you must complete the full advanced first aid course again and pass the WorkSafeBC examination. There is no abbreviated renewal or challenge exam option for OFA Level 3. We recommend booking your renewal course at least two to three months before your certification expires to ensure uninterrupted employment eligibility.
There are no formal prerequisite courses required to enroll in our advanced first aid course. However, students should be at least 16 years of age, physically capable of performing CPR and patient lifting techniques, and comfortable with an intensive learning pace. While prior first aid training is not mandatory, students with OFA Level 1 or basic first aid experience often find the first few days more familiar.
OFA Level 3 certification is issued by WorkSafeBC and is specifically designed for British Columbia workplaces. However, the clinical skill set you acquire in our advanced first aid course is broadly respected across Canada. Many employers in Alberta, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories recognize OFA Level 3 as equivalent or superior to their provincial requirements. If you plan to work outside BC, check with the relevant jurisdiction's workplace safety authority for reciprocity details.

"I looked at several providers before choosing Mainland Safety Training for my advanced first aid course, and I'm glad I did. The instructors were incredibly knowledgeable, the hands-on practice was extensive, and I felt completely prepared for the WorkSafeBC exam. I passed on my first attempt and landed a first aid attendant position within two weeks."
"The small class size made all the difference. During my advanced first aid course, the instructor corrected my technique in real time and gave me confidence I never would have gained in a larger class. The scenarios on days eight through ten were intense but incredibly valuable. Highly recommend Mainland Safety Training."
"This was my second time taking the advanced first aid course for renewal, and I chose Mainland Safety after a colleague's recommendation. The facility was clean, the equipment was modern, and the teaching was top-notch. They genuinely care about turning out competent first aid attendants, not just passing students through."
