Why Choose Us for Advanced First Aid in Vancouver

Meeting the complex safety needs of Canada's third-largest metropolitan area.

Vancouver is a global hub for commerce, technology, film production, port logistics, and tourism. The city's diverse economy presents a wide spectrum of workplace hazards that demand highly trained OFA Level 3 attendants. From the massive cargo operations at the Port of Vancouver — Canada's largest port handling over 145 million tonnes of cargo annually — to the high-rise construction projects reshaping the downtown skyline, Vancouver workers face unique and serious risks every day.

The film and television industry alone employs thousands of workers across Vancouver and the surrounding region, with productions frequently requiring on-set first aid attendants certified to OFA Level 3. Stunt coordination, special effects work, and location shooting in remote areas of the North Shore mountains or Stanley Park create emergency scenarios that standard first aid cannot adequately address. Our curriculum incorporates these Vancouver-specific situations so graduates are prepared from their first day on the job.

Vancouver's thriving technology sector, concentrated along the Broadway corridor and in Mount Pleasant, has also seen growing demand for workplace safety officers as companies scale their operations. Meanwhile, the hospitality and tourism industries, centred around Canada Place, Gastown, and Granville Island, employ large numbers of workers in environments where slip-and-fall injuries, kitchen burns, and crowd-related incidents are common.

Mainland Safety Training is headquartered in nearby Surrey, providing Vancouver students with a dedicated training facility that is easily reachable via Highway 1 or the SkyTrain Expo Line. The short commute from Vancouver allows students to train at a purpose-built facility with ample parking and modern simulation equipment, avoiding the high costs and limited space of downtown Vancouver training venues. Many Vancouver-based companies prefer sending their teams to our Surrey centre for the superior training environment and competitive pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for Vancouver workers and employers seeking OFA Level 3 certification.

Mainland Safety Training serves Vancouver from our dedicated training centre in Surrey, BC. The facility is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver via Highway 1 and is also accessible by SkyTrain (Expo Line). Our purpose-built centre offers a better training environment than most downtown Vancouver venues, with full-size simulation labs and free parking.

Yes. WorkSafeBC regulations require first aid attendants on film and television sets, and many productions require OFA Level 3 certification depending on the crew size and hazard level. Stunt-heavy productions, those involving pyrotechnics, and remote location shoots typically require the highest level of first aid coverage. Our course prepares attendants for these specific on-set demands.

From downtown Vancouver, take Highway 1 East across the Second Narrows or via the Oak Street / Highway 99 route. The drive is approximately 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Alternatively, take the SkyTrain Expo Line from Waterfront Station. Free parking is available at our Surrey training facility for those driving.

Key Vancouver industries requiring OFA Level 3 include port and marine operations, film and television production, construction (particularly high-rise and infrastructure projects), shipbuilding and repair, warehouse and logistics operations, utility companies, and large hospitality venues. WorkSafeBC determines the required first aid coverage level based on workplace risk assessment and number of workers.

Absolutely. Under WorkSafeBC regulations, employers are responsible for ensuring adequate first aid coverage at their worksites. Most Vancouver employers cover the full tuition cost, wages during training, and any associated travel expenses. We can provide invoicing directly to your employer and offer group discounts for companies enrolling multiple employees.

Your OFA Level 3 certification is valid for three years from the date of successful completion. Before your certificate expires, you will need to complete the full 10-day course again to maintain your certification. We recommend booking your recertification course at least two months before your expiry date to ensure you maintain continuous coverage for your employer.
